Here's one of the better shots from a 6 hour effort last Weds night/Thurs morning. Finally getting the hang of guiding, albeit manually. Didn't realize how hard it would be to find a guide star! It's a single 5 min shot at iso800 with the 350D and 10SN. Next step - learning to stack.

FANTASTIC, bit of amp glow, some noise. Need to learn to take darks, flats and bias shots in the same session so you can process your images better later. what f ratio is the scope?

The scope is F4. Whats going to produce better photos, proper post processing with darks, flats and bias shots or stacking? Or a combination of the two? I've not looked into these things yet but now I can actually take a reasonable shot, I guess it's the next logical step.

Houghy is just being picky, I would be happy with that shot, very nice.
If you want better, then you need both the darks/flats/bias, plus MORE time, either in a longer shot, or multiples of longer shots.
Darn fine single shot though just the same.
Gary
great shot i would be happy with that.

Holy sheet, that is amazing for single shot.
Any thoughts I had of sticking to an alt-az scope have just vanished!
Did you do any processing at all???

I played around with brightness and contrast but thats it. It was a very clear night and I'm a long way from any sky glow.

With apologies for my ignorance, would someone provide the identification numbers for these three galaxies - many thanks.

No my camera is not modified as yet Ezy. Houghy, I was wondering what the red glow in the bottom was. I get it in any shots that are 5-6 mins or longer. I've just read the article by Eddie Trimarchi and I know what you mean by darks and flats now, but bias?

Many thanks. I saw M65 and M66 in my bins for the first time last night, now to go searching for 3628 as well. :)

Erick, can you attempt to describe what they looked like through your binoculars, I am yet to see something like this, so having a bit of an idea of what to expect will help

Make sure you are under dark skies (I was at Snake valley), then look for faint fuzzies at the right location :D. Sorry, Ron, I didn't have time to study what I saw. I actually fluked it. Pointed the red dot finder at the approximate location. looked through the binoculars and there they were, nicely in the field of view. I couldn't believe it. I'll try again at next dark sky opportunity - hopefully in the next week? Otherwise April.

Actually I think I know what you mean, but it's a leap of faith sometimes to know if it's what you think it is, or whether it's just your imagination
Very nice Davo, well done.
Out of interest do you know their NGC numbers.
Cheers
PS. whoops didnt see the second page, just answered my own question
