Something old and new....
Some fresh h-alpha data added to the RGB data I captured a while ago
(which also could have used a freshen-up, but the Sydney weather has not been congenial )

Hi Peter,
it's almost unbelievable that you can take such excellent images from
the light polluted location of Sydney.
That part of the sky is one of the most photogenic areas anywhere to be seen.

Superb. Wonderful high impact colour and detail and the stars are sublime. A very high end image.

Hi Peter
That is truly a spectacular prize winning shot, makes me want to start taking pictures of nebulae, but unfortunately I have an obsession with galaxies :D.

Splendid image.

Stunning Peter, a real jaw dropper! :jawdrop::jawdrop::jawdrop:
Perfect stars, delicious colour, incredible details.
I would give that one a Gold Distinction were I judging that one at the pro photography awards (95+/100) ;)

Ta Andy...Gold Star eh? Maybe an elephant stamp too? :)
Thanks for the kind remarks.
Ta. but Not prize worthy I'm afraid.....the original data (which is very similar) didn't even get a HM at the Malin's a couple of years ago...the man is inscrutable.
That said... Who knows? ...the new H-alpha data alone might do very well somewhere else ;)
Thanks Greg. The AFFR gives me a beautifully corrected field at F6....but it's a bit of a PITA to get rid of the urban sky-glow gradients that come with the wider/brighter field.....sigh...a dark site would be nice...
Thanks Allan.

Very kind Marcus. BTW a pox on your dark skies !
Just kidding :D (maybe a little jealous of the new observatory location...)

Hehe ... yeah, the cloud pox!! According to CFN, I'm not expecting a cloud free night until full moon ... maybe!!!

I can attest to that. The difference between my semi rural home and my dark site for the CDK was quite significant.
Maybe a stint at Martin's place would be good to see how much difference it makes without having to get a rural property.
Greg.
Very cool image Peter.

Excellent rendition Peter, I’ve tried this a few times with 600-700mm instruments but just cannot seem to get that level of detail
I’d sometimes take steady skies over dark ones especially when you can blend in Ha. It looks like your Ha was taken under some pretty steady skies.

Thanks, glad you liked it.
Are we talking 700mm aperture here? or focal length? :)
The seeing was good when I grabbed this, but not remarkable.
That said, I think with its plasma loops this has to be one of the most spectacular nebulae you can image. Good to hear you liked the result.

Thanks guys. I'm scratching to get a full data sets with the current weather.
A bit of Ha, here, start of a RGB set there....and a massive weather system on its way :cloudy::windy::rain::cold:

Thanks guys...and apologies for the tardy response. I have been scouting
locations for a possible semi-rural retreat and observatory! It would be awesome to escape the urban glow of Sydney.... time will tell.

We have many of the famous amateur astronomers right here such
as Anthony Wesley at Murrumbateman.
Now that would be an ideal site - dark and some elevation as well!
cheers
