Anyone in Sydney area got one of this I could borrow for 5min? I have one on order but it looks like it's coming from China on a raw boat. TIA

You should have asked for it to be sent on a seasoned one...

If the diesel leaks, it'll be a cooked boat.

It is easy to make one... . 5 minutes job.
(This extractor is for 3D printer heater, but the same principle applies.)

Yeah I've done a couple of these out of steel channel and other contraptions to adapt a bearing puller I have. That pinion is really tightly fitted. I need something very compact and solid.

Have you tried heating the pinion with torch?

Yeah but I'll try other things first. If I pull it on axis nicely there's no reason it shouldn't come out. If there is loctite somehow in there I'll have to heat it up but before I'll need to open the motor and decouple the shaft from the encoder first.

I have the Rowan one for the heq5 gear if that is large enough.

Hi Ray, got a pic of it?

PS: googled one and saw a pic on CN. It looks small enough. Here's a pic of the motors and the new gearbox they fit in.

shaft OD is 3.16mm
pinion OD 7.2mm
pinion height 4.3mm

gap under pinion 3mm to the black face.

Hey Marc....I've got one....perhaps we could each drive to the border and I could lob it across the DMZ to you?

Pinion size is 9m and 5mm thick with a shaft about 4 mm. The space inside the puller is a little over 10mm x 6mm thick with a 5mm shaft space I could post it to you or you could pick it up if you are down this way. I will email a larger image.

I see. Looks like the bottom part is too thick to get between the pinion and the motor face. I have a 3mm gap only.

Sent an email.
It is 3.5 mm but could easily be filed down as it is alloy. I am unlikely to use it again and at 3mm it will still be ok.

Thanks for today Ray. Did the job beautifully.
I've set the new cogs and have to wait 24h to cure. Will plug the motors in the gearboxes tomorrow and make sure everything is alright before meshing back into the mount.

Loctite sets in 1h full strength in 24 so I had to try. The mount is so much quieter. Sounds so smooth. Before surgery I had a coffee grinder. If the PE is a function of the noise I should be alright. :)
