Well, after my somewhat surprising banishing from IIS  ... this year has been pretty lean imaging pickings for me

The copious smoke from the fires at the start of the year and then the Covid19 palava :scared: more recently, coupled with the usual Moon/cloud/life limitations we all face to various degrees, in our frustrating game, it has meant lean pickings...

Aaaanywaaaaay ....back in March, I ran the NSW police gauntlet across the NSW-ACT border, to my observatory :scared3: and captured this beautiful vista of part of the Vela SNR region, with the FLI Proline16803/FSQ106EDX4 rig :)

Vela SNR (https://www.flickr.com/photos/strongman/49683166326/in/photostream/) click on image and pan around with your cursor...

For those who like to see the unadulterated full resolution pristine FSQ106EDX4 field...go HERE (https://pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/170537842/original) :D

Hopefully I am getting out tomorrow night and Saturday night :prey:

Wow! Beautiful! Nicely composed too. Even if I get everything else right, I stuff up the framing.

Is there much in the way of SII in the Vela SNR?

Again, Welcome back Mike!!

A mind blowing vista!
Very very well done!!

I hope the police don't pose a problem with your travel out to the observatory!

Cheers,
Tim

An astonishingly beautiful image, Mike. I reckon it counts as at least six separate objects worth of imaging: two different SNR's if I've understood you correctly, three Gum nebulae, and the beautiful open cluster.

Most impressive.

Thanks again Gray

Yeah I could crop it into two or three different images if I wished, huh? :)

I agree, it is beautiful but most of that is because of the subject matter itself...I did the easy part :)

The question must be asked... who is big spoon and who is little spoon? :help:

Nice image Mike, plenty lurid neon for my liking

I really like this image. Its very clever framing as the 2 gum nebulas don’t make a super interesting target by themselves.
But like that it creates a wonderful spectrum of colours.

Vela is a fantastic region, the OIII filaments have come out very strongly. Nicely chosen frame with balanced colour combination Mike.

Thanks so much everyone :thumbsup: really glad you all enjoyed the view, hard to take a bad image of a super model.

Oh and Dunk, Lee and I would naturally interact as equal spoons :innocent: ...we would share our relative strengths with each other to improve each others imaging out comes, amen :prey:...aaaand he would of course have to do the dishes, vacuuming, clean the bathrooms, all the washing, including hanging it out, bringing it in (I'm happy to put away), mow the lawn, all the gardening aaand do any odd jobs around the house etc...I would..?..cook :P...and prepare the alcohol, as required :drink:

Nice Mike. I like the colour rendering more than anything. I think the composition works really well too. I have been doing a few trips to my observatories too, though we did not have the same level of restrictions here, so movement was not really a problem, just discourage.

Thanks Paul, love the colours in this area of sky, it's a veritable carnival of colour :painting:. I think travelling alone, just 10km over the ACT border into NSW, to an isolated observatory (...to work on research ;)) over night, is pretty low level risk, so I didn't feel too guilty :)
