Heaven, Eta & Earth.
Nightscape showing a subtle Milky way Starfield and tiny Carina Nebula (LHS) in pink/magenta tones captured from home base with a nearby NorfolK Island Pine.... ~SQM=18.8 mag./arc sec^2 (~3.1 mcd/m^2, Bortle 7)
84 untracked exposures of 10s @ f/2 ISO800 (14 minutes total exposure time), stacked in Sequator. Unmodified Nikon D800, with Sigma Art 50mm f/1.4 and Marumi filter. Unfortunately some of the gold and blue star colour has been sapped from the image due to upload.
Enjoy the view.

The best Milky Way shots are either a coastal scene and in our case the ocean is facing the east where the Milky Way rises and of course no light pollution out to sea. Or a nice mountain range view ideally with a lake in front of it, not so easy to find or a desert scene.
Apart from that a tree, an old abandoned country house, a barn, a tractor as the foreground subject and the Milky Way as the background subject.
I need to find some nice locations. Mike had a nice spot at some beach on the central coast that has some nice rock formations on the point.
Greg.
True that. We have a number such of opportunities on Port Phillip Bay with anywhere between 10-30km clear water over relatively wide views (90 to almost 270 degrees depending on where you're situated). I have a nearby favourite in Mentone (Sky Brightness of 1.1 mcd/m^2) which is about 3 times darker than home base (3.1 mcd/m^2/SQM 18.8/Bortle~7) and only about 10-15minutes away. I also like the coast from a "no" or little light pollution over the water standpoint, provided I'm not facing the CBD or a big-suburb over that water. Now I just need to get out there on some "essential" travel.
