Wow, we don't get these down further south. Great you can reach these.

Nice one.

Greg.

Thanks Greg,
Yes, it is nice to steal a bit from the Northern sky!
Living near the equator does have some benefits!

Tim

Well done Tim. At surface brightness about 15.5 mag/sq arcmin, it wouldn't be straightforward. We might get about 4.5 hours of this Diamond one Hot August Night when it's best positioned.

Thanks M+T,
Yes, even up here at -17deg S it only gets up to an altitude of around 35deg.
:)

Cheers Marc!

Hi Tim,
Nicely processed, you have a beautiful sharp image with plenty of colour, a good one to add to the collection.

Nice shot of it!! I like the Ha addition to it.

I too was lucky to have had the opportunity image the Crescent Nebula when I was living in Japan, but at that time I was still a noob at digital astrophotography and over processed it. It ended being a little too "Zsa Zsa Gabor"-ish.

Thanks Sean,
What were the night skies like in Japan? ...Your Crescent Neb is good.

Tim

I lived & worked in Tokyo for about 19.5 yrs. My friends would drive to Chiba (a golf course conveniently named Cosmo Classic GC) & we asked for permission to use their car park. It’s about Bortle 6 skies with a major glow from the Kawasaki factories but the east & south were decently dark (peninsula surrounded by the Pacific Ocean).

One can get darker Bortle 2 skies driving up to the mountains but would have to keep in mind of bears.
