View Full Version here: : DMK Jupiter and Io shadow transit - 1654UTC - Canberra
Really starting to get the hang of this DMK camera.
Seeing was OK. Perhaps 6/10.
9.25, 3x TV barlow
Single point alignment in Registax 4.

Very nice Matt - you've got to be happy with that one. Terrific amount of detail visible and the Galilean moon is the icing on the cake eh!

lovely stuff.......clouds down here stopped me from this lovely aspect, great that you have captured it....well done
as i alluded to in the saturn thread, i have had a fairly large drop in brightness once the filters are in. I am guessing 25 - 30%%
what frames per second are you capturing at the moment?
it may be worth while making sure that you have enough up your sleeve so to speak in terms of the histogram once the filters are attached.
Thanks guys
Dave. Was capturing at 30fps. The gain was set around 840, so I still had a little up my sleeve.
From memory, the brightness was only about half way.
Mike. I pulled the pin shortly after 4am
This one's had slightly harder wavelets

That's an excellent image Matt! Why did you stop at 4am? Did you capture any colour with the ToUcam?
I was knackered, Mike... after three consecutive 2-30am rises in a row and the last 2 days being in full-day training workshops.
I know. What a wimp!!!
And to be honest, I didn't think the seeing looked particularly awesome at 4am. Good, but nothing outstanding.
I'd already captured 16 AVIs and captured plenty of the transit.
But i was surprised by how good the data was when I started processing.
A bit of a lesson for me there.
Don't tell me the seeing improved even more as the morning wore on?
What really sticks in my claw is that I was planning on driving out to Murrumbateman to join bird at his new property, but decided around 2.45am it wasn't looking good enough to go to that degree of effort!
Hmmmmmmmm. Next time I'll just jump in the car, even if it's raining!

I don't know if it got better, but it was certainly consistent(ly good) for the 2 hours I was out there (4am-6am).
Matt, hate to tell you, but the seeing improved dramatically after about 4.30am until 5.30am - had the best seeing I've ever experienced.... too late for the shadow transit but I got an awful lot of nice stuff anyway.
I'm sure you really wanted to hear that :-(
Nice images btw!
cheers, Bird
