High ISO ?

While chasing the Chicken with zwo plus 80mm on heq5 I placed the Nikon D5500 with 50/200 lens...I think it was at 120 but so tired I don't really know.
So for amusement I shot the Chimney at 25600 ISO...43 light frames and 20 dark frame, Stacked Deep Sky Stacker drizzled 2x, Star Tools binned 25% and 20% crop, Photo Shop and Gimp.
A rush job but I am very surprised with the result … was less noisey that I expected... It would seem one could use short exposure and a static tripod..so take note if you still have not pulled the trigger on an EQ mount.

Looks good Alex. Nice job. Those Nikons do have nice sensors. There are plenty of small Star Tracker type mounts for DSLRs that only need a standard tripod to work very well.

Thank you Glen for your encouragement and thank you for your recomendation to buy my camera in the first place.
I don't know if the colour is ok but the noise at least for me is tolerable...and it's only 20 minutes exposure.
When I say tripod I have in mind using only a tripod...I think one could use high ISO and very short exposure and move the camera after the frame has drifted somewhat...certainly DSS does not mind.
I will try to do this if I can find my tripod.

Good job Alex. If you look at the latest S&T they have an article on ultra short sub high ISO static tripod work. Terrific pics, but they were using late model high end Canon DSLR.

Having used a few Nikon’s I’ve found that after ISO 400 there is little benefit and after ISO 800 it goes down hill where the background noise stops improving and you just lose dynamic range.

It has come up well though so it has worked :thumbsup:

There's no reason you can't do it too Alex; they produce great images.

Thx Alex, I’ve also been playing with higher iso. The 1800 recommended not to exceed in my little 4/3 Olympus has at times not given me enough star with my short exposures to stack therefore ~a waist of time ! So I’m pushing to 4000 and picking up enough stars to stack! I do remember using 25600 by mistake and remembered the out come looked ok🤔. Food for thought 💭 ..
