I should put on my old RAAF uniform and stand in the driveway at dawn.

A neighbor of a friend left notes in letterboxes in her street saying he would be out in the dawn with his bugle playing the last post, he was asking people to join him in their driveways.

All good I say!

Well I did it (without the uniform, didn't fit, I'm too fat).

I was not the only one around here either, we live on an acreage estate ( everyone has 5 acres).
To hear the Last Post blaring out of peoples homes (mine included) was really eerie as it echoed across the valley. Sent goose bumps up my back it did.

My wife and I were pleased to see several other candles flickering along our suburban Canberra street..... Lest We Forget.....

The missus and I and our three year old daughter went out with a candle and played the short service linked on the RSL QLD website. No one else in our street but we could see a couple of houses in the next street were doing it. Certainly not the same as going to the parade and service in town but still a lovely thing to do.

Lest We Forget.

We're a bit secluded and can't really see any neighbouts, but we got up and watched the service in the lounge room.

My workmate from Mt Gambier had James Morrison himself playing last post this morning. (Morrison lives just up the road from him). Morrison had a few flags up and a brazier going in his drive. :)

I went to my driveway at 6am this morning and was pleasantly surprised to see so many of my neighbours also out with candles etc.

Lest we forget.

Thank you to all those that have served, serve and will serve. You have touched my life in so many ways - thank you.

It was good to see so many folks out at their kerbsides and balconies, as the dawn light approached. The Last Post was particularly haunting this morning.

Cheers

Dennis

We will never forget ...!!

The only item of Airforce Uniform that still fits me to this day is the ' Great Coat ' with the RAAF Badges on each shoulder.....I was issued it with the rest of my Uniform 48 years ago.
