Milk Splash Nebula

Here is a peek at my first DSLR image. I had not intended to use the 350D for Astro-imaging, but I have finally given up on the Meade DSIc. Is it a faulty unit? is there an issue with my laptop? Who knows, don't care.:P
Image details are:
Eta Carina, thru ED80 with Canon 350D and EQ6 guided with a toUcam and easy guider.
Exposure 3x5min. Way too little data for a decent image, and stretched excessively, but no colour adjustment.

The foreground nebulosity reminds me of some splashed milk on a red carpet.
Watching a DVD by Ken Duncan suggested placing the object of interest about 1/3 in; I don't think it is such a good idea with Astro-images:sadeyes:

is there a way you could use the DSI as the guiding camera?

I have never seen that effect before on the keyhole, interesting.

1/3 of the way in? is that talking about the 2/3 rule? If that is the case then it will not work with Astro pictures. You frame the image as you want it to look, so if there is more Nebulosity you want to capture to the left or right of the main target then you might want to recenter to include that.

If you went a little deeper on that image you could get all that nebula off to the right.

Nice image though, interesting effect, and you have captured it well.

I reckon a 350d beats a DSI anyday!!!

Totally agree. I was addicted to the DSI but now DSLR.

Yeah the DSI can be used as a guide camera, not sure if it will out perform the webcam though.

I might revisit that area of the sky one night and acquire more data. I'll need 3 hours (I wish) of cloud free skies though.

Not sure what you want; the individual subs or the final combined frame?
The individual subs are tricolour fits files uploaded from the DSLR (not CR2 files). Each one is 46mb in size; even zipped they are around 120 mb. The final combine is a 46mb tif file. In my opinion far too many ones and zeros to email.

Eric I forgot to mention the ISO was 100, and they were dark frame subtracted and acquired using MaxDSLR
