NGC 4594 Sombrero Galaxy

This is only the second time I’ve imaged this weird looking galaxy
Last night conditions and seeing were superb, no moon, no wind , no dew , no mozzies and low jetstream, simply a beautiful night !! High cloud rolled in on my last sub at around 11.30pm

8” F5 Bintel newt on an EQ6-R Mount
Canon 600D stock camera with Baader coma corrector and home made cooling fan ( no filters )
ISO 800
32 x 4 minute dithered guided subs
25 x darks
PHD2 guiding ( best numbers yet for this rig which is carrying 15kg , 0.70 to 0.80 arc sec error )
Medium dithered every sub
Frame , focus and capture BYEOS
Goto and tracking EQMOD, StellariumScope and Stellarium
Stacked in DSS
Processed in Startools V1.4

Martin, you were fortunate with the weather and your rig was working exceptionally well, so this has been reflected ( no pun intended ) in producing this wonderful shot of M104. You have to be happy with that, great detail and lovely processing has created a marvelous image. Great job! :2thumbs:

I’ve been imaging for just over 3 years now with my DSLR and newts and getting ready soon to advance to a cooled OSC Camera ( a whole new learning curve ). I don’t feel comfortable moving to the Deep Space section yet , I’ll wait until I can produce some nice images with the new OSC first and then maybe move up. Still so much more to learn in this hobby.Thanks for your words of praise and encouragement

Using a DSLR running at 25C + you need plenty of good dithered subs to extract the detail from the noise , 2hrs is a minimum on these galaxies, + 3hrs is ideal. The hardest issue is sub lengths. Depending on conditions ( seeing, outside ambient temperature, humidity etc.. ) I’m finding more 3 minute subs are slightly better than a lesser amount of 5 minute subs at same integration time
My next project hopefully Friday night is to capture NGC 4945 Tweezers galaxy or Golden coin galaxy. A very dim galaxy at mag 9.5
