Hi guys, it's been a while.
Every now and then we see the Moon pass behind the Earth as viewed from Himawari 8. I think I posted one of these before. This is another.
This was received by me with a 2.3 metre dish and Novra S300D receiver on April 6 at 0110UT. It's a pseudo colour palette, one visible channel and 3 IR channels blended to RGB.

Do you know what land is in the frame?

Beautiful image from Himawari, more to taking cloud images for BOM and other weather services than meets the eye.

Most background stuff gets filtered out, but some still make it around the mask. I've never seen the Moon on GK-2A images. Their mask must be very close in to the Earth.

Thanks Ray and Chris. It's my other main hobby after astronomy. I love chasing cyclones with Himawari.

Hi Kevin,
It is a really nice photo.
May I know how much did it cost you for the gears? Just a dish and receiver?

That's fantastic Kevin :eyepop:
How much did you have to adjust exposure between Earth and Moon in that combined image?
cheers
Phil
