Can you see the blue insect-like goggles on the face of Vela shown here?

The brightest glowing filaments of hot ionised O3 create extraordinary forms and shapes in the vast Vela Supernova Remnant, an expanding debris cloud from the death explosion of a massive star.

Light from the supernova explosion that created the Vela remnant reached Earth about 11,000 years ago. Contrasted against the red Ha rich background these forms are more clearly seen in this starless image (Starnet++). :)

Taken from my light polluted suburban backyard under a full moon! :D

PS: Needed something to cheer myself up after the recent cancellation of my first trip to NYC/NEAIC next weekend. Hope you like it! :)

Hi Chris, the challenge is always to create a scientifically relevant, yet aesthetically pleasing image - hopefully this one has passed the test! cheers :D

Wow, that's the first image we've seen of the "whole shebang", other than in a book. That's a magnificent undertaking with just 70mm of aperture.

What is the field of view of the image?

Would you consider a version with stars?

Best,
MnT

Hi MnT,
I do have a set of RGB stars, but after replacing them, well - this still looks better imo to show off the structure & form. :D
FOV is 2.39 x 3.07 degrees.
Thanks for the encouraging feedback!
