With the $A plumbing new depths against the greenback and Euro, I ran some quick numbers on the replacement cost of my gear.

It was a very scary number.

If you are holding gear made in the USA or Europe, Might be a good time to review your insurance policies....

Even my 'affordable' equipment is starting to look expensive at current exchange rates. I see a tempting 11" Edge and a couple of Tak's in the classifieds though.

Glad I bought my new scope when I did, it was painful enough even without adding a few cents more slide in the exchange rate.

I was undecided in paying in full for my mirror as its going to be at least 8 months away from completion for my dob. Glad I finished paying in full in Jan, I thought the exchange rate hurt them but it sucks even more now.

I think it might be awhile before I comtemplate any purchases from overseas, especially from the US.

The aussie went to 46 cents back under Keating
So it has room to go lower if things get bad.

But good for aussie exporters and farmers. And yeah, with our past reliance on the Asian markets and tourism, and current lack of manufacturing, expect the peso to fall even further

Yes and with the interest rate cut (which is great) it will add further downward pressure on the dollar.

Greg.

Not good for Aussie astro-dealers, damn shame we don't manufacture cars here anymore though.
