Hi everyone,
when I am out side doing any form of astronomy, I prefer to just to embrace the sounds that are around me.
I may be fortunate, but most times that is the sound of the surf washing against the shoreline,
or the breeze caressing the trees......well...back when we had trees for the wind to caress….
So, my mind wandered.....
What do you listen to when you enjoy your form of Astronomy ?
Paul.

I do a lot of outreach so the sound of parents/kids is ever-present .....
so...... when I go to observe by myself I don't want to hear phones, people, slewing motors or controllers beeping..... I often set up in the Snowy Mountains where the only sounds are some dingoes howling, brumbies snorting and scraping the ground and the wind in the snow gums...... and the kettle boiling every now and then....

Possums and fruitbats are ever present, neigbours having parties on a weekend.

Pink Floyd/Bowie/Queen/Yes/Jethro Tull etc, and the occasional twit who reckons the back road 500M away behind my place is a good spot to turn money (In the form of tyres) into smoke.
It is a good chance to sit and listen to some music that my wife's tastes don't run to.

Try Brian Eno's LUX. Set you drifting amongst the stars.

Personally I prefer silence, after all this is space we are looking at - where noise does not exist. Having said that I do have a pesky possum that sometimes growls at me from his tree in the bush behind my place.
I believe silence is generally unappreciated, and perhaps it makes humans uncomfortable. I know humans that simply cannot stand the sound of silence, and seek to fill their every waking moment with Spotify, talking gibberish, etc

I too prefer the silence, noise only disturbs my Kangaroos.

Great post and thread
In Sydney when imaging I generally hear police and ambulance car sirens in the distance, the odd jet flying over head , neighbours next door shouting and arguing , cars screaming down our street at 80km/hr in a 50km/hr zone etc.....
On the other hand when observing and imaging at Narrawallee all I hear are the waves crashing on the sand , the odd possum racing up and down the fence, the odd water bird squarking down at the inlet , generally peace and serenity under a Bortle 3 Milky Way painted across the night sky
Quite a contrast between both locations !!

Ideally I like to observe from a quiet location with only the sounds of nature. It's one of the reasons I prefer manual push-to mounts instead of noisy goto's.
"Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence"
