A/2019 U6 last night, 27 February 2020. This object still has a minor planet designation while the existence of a coma (and more recently a short faint tail) has been known for some time. In time it will receive a comet designation.

The second image is a wider crop taken from 6 x 30 sec subs and the coma is fairly clearly visible with a bit of butchering! Expected to brighten to mag 10 or so mid-year and it will be well-placed for the southern hemisphere. Rough estimate of m1 is around 16, taking into account the coma.

Very slim pickings comet-wise for southerners at the moment, with the brightest comet available to us, C/2018 F4 (PANSTARRS), sitting at a miserable mag 14 or so!

Cheers -

Rob,
Good catch of a pretty faint object!
Well done, mate.
