Hi,
Can anyone tell me what is the most accurate source of information for meteor showers visible in NSW? I have looked on the web but have found conflicting information.

Steve

Hi Steve,
One source you might like to look at is the phone app Sky Safari.
In the search heading you will find meteor showers. In that page, you can select "Sort by..." where you can select Date and all the showers are arranged according to the date of their peak. Meteor showers are typically visible a day or two either side of the peak. The Sky Safari app also lists if the shower is visible at your location or not.
When you select any specific shower, Sky Safari notes a whole lot of details regarding the shower, such as how strong or weak it is, parent body (the comet that seeded the shower, eg the Eta Aquarids' parent body is Halley's Comet!), the velocity the particles are entering the atmosphere, the peak rate of meteors and a whole bunch of other parameters.
I hope this is what you are looking for.
Cheers,
Alex.

Thanks,
I have Stellarium, but Sky Safari might be better for meteors.

Hi Alex,
I am a bit confused. Sky Safari shows the Geminids low in the night sky tonight (16Feb).
I must be doing something wrong, as I understand the Geminids are only visible from Sydney in December.
I think I have all setting correct, including location.

A excellent and reliable source of information is the International Meteor Organization:

This year the Geminids will be interesting as there will be no moon disturbance. Maximum on December 14th at 00:50 UT
