Had my first go at Mercury this morning. What a tough object. On my laptop screen is looked like a blazing blue, white and red firball going allover the place!

To get some image scale I tried the unthinkable combination of a 15mm plossl and 5 x Powermate projected onto the SPC900 using a 12.5" f/5 together with a UV/IR and W25 Deep Red filter.

Although the image scale is there, I was expecting to see some variation in surface albedos but it was not to be. Unsure about the filter combination required for Mercury so any thoughts and advice welcome as I would like to have another go tommorow morning.

Sorry John, I can't offer any useful advice here, but good on you! Great effort on a tough subject!

What can you expect from the "winged messenger"? - it's named that because it moves fast! :)
Brave attempt on a difficult object.

Thats pretty neat John. I bet there is a few Amateur Astronomers who haven't even seen Mercury.
