73mm at home on Friday - what I would describe as a nice slow steady soaking, not too sudden to cause flooding, but it was patchy across Sydney.

Light drizzle on and off today but not significant.

Rainwater tanks (200,000L for the garden) went from empty to full so the garden will be ok for the next 6 months despite water restrictions.

I am so happy that the rain is wide spread.

I wish for those still waiting that your rain will arrive soon.

I installed a $200 pump at the dam beside my van and observatory.

I have now received news that it has gone underwater...even if it is dead I am happy.

We were selling dam water to save an orchard and now it's back to a normal level. What a happy result.

Rain is money in the bank.

Still these times suggest that another dam would be a good idea...and maybe start a fish farm..and gather this dangerous leaf litter fuel and turn it into money making compost...so much to do and so little life left to do it.
Hopefully get some imaging in next week..how good is life?

Alex, I assume your van roof water catchment system worked? Are the tanks full?

Yes but I still have a larger tank to connect. At the moment it only goes to a small tank.but I am set up..the whole thing works rather well considering I have only been at it for six..seven months..when fully set up it will be way past anything I need...but having plenty of water is a good thing.

We sell water it's great and you don't have to do a thing...water is the key to all else.

The main house is well supplied and the house dam full..all is good.

There is some soil erosion above the house dam (another dam past my van dam) and yet another dam would prevent erosion and be a good place to start a fish farm. I am looking into what one can do...seems a mega liter dam needs no forms etc..
I have been preoccupied with fish farming recently..it has many advantages..I have a system of no feed and generally no overhead which shows a higher profit than cattle.or other fish farming..so I may go ahead...not much capital needed..the cost of the dam plus about a grand to set up the dam..solar pumps, night lights etc (feed hopefully from the insects drawn in by night lights and plants that fish eat..no one thinks of that it seems..I had a thing going at the other place and know a fair bit about it although I have not gone commercial. But I understand fish and yabbies probably better than most folk..
I have grown yabbies and fish and think I can set up a profitable system that requires no overhead..and no overhead means only profit and no pressure to sell in a down market...that is key in farming ..if you can hold on past harvest you clean up.
Fish farming is interesting but I am attracted as it could be fun and profitable.

Look at Aquaponics Alex.....I think it would be right up your alley! I know someone who has started a setup and it works great.
Grow veggies with the fish waste as fertiliser and feed the veggie waste to the fish.

..... and you get to eat them both!!!

I am way ahead actually. My system works upon fertilizing the catchment area which is your garden area.
The first step in greater production in fish farming is to fertilize the catchment...it's step one actually.
Just throwing out kno (any fertilizer really) increases yield...

My idea is to solar pump to catchment, grow stuff but have the flow provide for fish.

I have useless leaf matter to get rid of..up from the dam leaf matter provides food..fight fire with fish as they say.

In SA we got 25mm over 24 hours. That does not sound like much but it is quite a lot for this time of the year here. There have not been too many SA summers in the last 15 years that have had a that much rain or more. Very happy for the rain as it had been several months with virtually no rain at all.

Though some areas are still short on rain, it seems that a lot of the fire areas have had a good amount. Easterly winds bring a lot less smoke to Warragul than they did before the rain.

Barely a week goes by without rain here.
