In the heart of the Rosette Nebula lies a bright open cluster of stars that lights up the nebula. The stars of NGC 2244 formed from the surrounding gas only a few million years ago.

A hot wind of particles streams away from the cluster stars and contributes to an already complex menagerie of gas and dust filaments while slowly evacuating the cluster centre. The Rosette Nebula's centre measures about 50 light-years across, lies about 4,500 light-years away, and is visible with binoculars towards Monoceros.

This is a bicolour test image - I'll add S2 & RGB stars when the skies over Melbourne eventually clear up again. We currently have poor seeing due to lingering Bushfire smoke!

That said, I'm pretty happy what data I have so far, collected under a full moon :D

2 hrs 3nm Ha 600 sec subs - Red
3 hrs 3nm O3 600 sec subs - Blue

I like this one. Nice close up, great detail. I can imagine flying my White Star through the arch of gas near the centre.

The centre of the Rosette is a cool region, very nice job from smokey moony suburban Melbourne ....that you found the transparency to do anything really, is amazing :eyepop:...no good here

The bicolour looks good Andy. Detail looks ok but maybe just a bit soft. No doubt all the smoke is causing some issues. With any luck it will be better now.

Cheers Paul - hoping, fingers crossed, touch wood etc that after all the rain last night the air will clear a bit - Friday night's forecast is looking promising :)

Cheers Nikolas

Nice Andy. But you can make the Rosette any colour you want. I did a lurid green version several years ago. There are no rules in imaging.

Looking good Andy, clear nights have been slim pickings for a while. Hasn't been as bad here as others parts of Eastern Aus though.

Nice one, Andy. There's a structure dead center in the field that I'm gonna say looks vaguely like a partially eclipsed Christmas tree... I've never noticed it in other images (though now that I look, I see it) but it really stands out in your image. Not sure I'm feelin' the colours, but to each his own!
