Well, I told the guys at work this afternoon I was taking that week off and not to bother putting me on the teaching timetable for that week. ;)
Sya asked me last year why it wasn't running for two weeks. She also asked if I would be allowed to camp out there early or stay later. :D

Well we are going to trial a double weekend next year.
It is 23rd July - 3rd August 2008. We're hoping it will be popular, as the weekend are our fullest nights.
If it is, and it's not too much extra work, we'll do it again.

2 weekends - I am dead. I probably wont be allowed to go

You could 'break down' like Brendan and end up staying longer :D or drive through the night:driving: then you would only miss one night.
Anyway the whole idea started for people who work during the week to see more dark sky. And maybe the interstateers may try to sleep a bit more before they leave for home. I'd hate to be restricted to just the weekend, it wouldn't be an Astrofest experience.

I gave my boss the Astrofest dates about a month ago and told him I'd be taking time off - probably 4 days or so, not the full week as it's all unpaid leave and I can't afford to drop a weeks pay AND buy lots of raffle tickets / astro goodies while there!
;)
Rob I know you'll miss the family this time around but we'll all have a great time there.
Look forward to catching up with the rest of you too whom I only get to meet at Astrofest.
Cheers!

Yeah, 1250x, mad isn't it. But a double barlowed 4mm is something you've just got to try once in your life.
Wish I could have stayed up longer with you, nights like that have been hard to come by. Maybe we could organise another night and get Chris to cook us up a meal. PS, sorry I forgot your online name before.
We're back on dial up until the Government releases more funds for rural broadband. He got sick of going to the bank to pay the bills.
Hey Paul, it's great to be back.

Hi everyone,
Just 64 days to go :party2:
Anne-Louise has updated the registration page to include to include ordering t-shirts. There is a picture of what the shirts will roughly look like is up there as well, Alan is going to make up a sample soon so we can have that online.
The shirts are the same quality as the iceinspace shirts that most have so you know the value. Order online and you pay $15, a limited selection of sizes will be at Astrofest, but there you will pay $18.
If you have already registered, but you want to order a shirt, youy can still do that with the online reg form. Deadline is... um... early July I think . Hmmm... I'll have to look that up and get back to you.
Cheers for now
Tony

We're coming for sure, HRH & I booked on the boat today, after reading the etiquette and knowing HRH's penchant for switching on bright white lights at night, I'll have to get some red gelatine filter material, lest we be ejected from the camp for breaches of etiquette...Does anyone know where I can get red Gelatine filter material???...

Just a question for those that have been before. It is apparent that power is available, but what length of extension cord would generally be necessary to access this power?
Looking forward to finally meeting some of you "in the flesh" so to speak
Allan
Dennis
12-06-2007, 10:03 AM
Hi Allan
If you require power, then most of the observing paddocks are within 20 to 50 metres of a mains power point.
Power is generally drawn from the dormitories via extension leads running out of the doors or windows in the 2 or 3 buildings. Depending on where you set up. I usually bring a 30m and a 20m extension, but to be on the safe side, 50m should cover it.
I would recommend an outdoor extension, such as used on building sites, and an ELCB to protect yourself, as the ground can get damp from dew. Not too sure if we’ll see any grass up there this year, with the drought.
Cheers
Dennis
