View Full Version here: : Reducing image to fit SharpCap
First time out having a go at astrophotography and wanted to try my luck with tonight's moon.
Is there a way to reduce the image so that I can get the whole of the moon in the frame? The moon appears too large in SharpCap and is cropped a fair amount

Hi Simon,
I don't know the ins and outs of your camera but providing you have it set at its maximum resolution in Sharpcap then you probably have the maximum field of view for your setup.
Ways to get a larger field of view - shorter focal length telescope or larger sensor. With a C9.25 I wouldn't expect you'd be able to get the whole moon in one frame with most astro cameras. Maybe with a full frame sensor (like in a full-frame DSLR) you might just manage it?

This is what you would see with your setup, shaprcap can't do anything about your image train unfortunately.
Even with a reducer your camera's field of view is not enough to fill the frame. You'd be better off with a dslr attached for moon shots.
Also bear in mind the camera you have selected is a deep sky camera but will take excellent shots of the planets (not a full frame moon) with the c9.25

Thanks guys, looks like I have a lot of learning ahead
