We interrupt your scheduled service to bring you this rendition of NGC 1977, aka the Running Man.

I've started to feel like shooting some nebulae lately and NGC 1977 is first cab off the rank.

Had never planned to get a lot of data on this, but was hoping for a couple more. For some reason SGP failed the meridian flip though so I got less than expected. This is a mere 3.4hrs, though thankfully a bright enough target that it still looks ok.

I've now also got H and O filters again so I may well do some narrowband (different target) soon as the moon phase is starting to become disagreeable for LRGB, but the forecast suggests we'll have some clear skies.

:P Nah it's excellent (of course), nice natural processing, looks like gas and dust and those bright stars look excellent, well done. It looks good at fit-to-screen size too :thumbsup:...and funnily enough, it's a framing I too was considering recently with my gear, during a fleeting moment of equal madness, deciding if I wanted to shoot something other than a galaxy :whistle: :P...so, another shot I now don't have to take :D...hey, I think I will image vicariously through you Lee :question: almost as enjoyable and I can sleep :D

haha. I actually probably wouldn't have chosen this framing given the choice, but I needed a new target after NGC 1313 had set. I do have automated rotation, but the cables aren't set up to do that safely, so I only rotate when I'm physically at the scope.



lol that's certainly a much cheaper option too :p



Thanks Andy! Yeah, I might do a bit of M42 as well, but I don't really want to do a mosaic and my FOV is still pretty small so I'll have to carefully consider how to compose it.

Thanks Colin; definitely worth a shot given how little time you need to put into it... kinda hard to justify not giving it a shot!

I actually wonder whether I see colour noise as well as other people. My wife tends to see it veery clearly on images that I barely see it on. But then, she was always artistically inclined so maybe she just has a better eye for it.

I was going to drop the frame a tad compared to yours, moving the running man down a little and get that extra blue cluster star in, that is just out of the frame in your shot :)....so, err?...can you re shoot it please :question: :shrug:
