EVscope, an electronic telescope ?

Recently an EVscope is announced, shipping early 2020, costs about $3000 US (A$4200).
It comprises a 114mm Newton with a sensor and image processing in it instead of an eyepiece and can be read out on a smartphone app. It is a kind of instant astrophoto device, while they call it 'visual astronomy'.
AFAIK it is currently not available in Australia, only in the US ans EU (why ??).

What I think (what I have read, I am not a beta tester):


If it were an electronic image capturing and processing device only with a 1.25" barrel to be popped into any telescope, I'd like it, even when it costs A$2000. In that case it can be used with a small 80mm tabletop scope or a hefty 400mm Dobson, which captures MUCH more light than the EVscope. And allows screwing in filters such as UHC or Halpha.


BTW, for this $3000 of this device, one can get a 114mm Newton on a Goto mount plus an ASI astrocamera plus guiding. And an ASI Air (https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/product/zwo-asiair) which allows showing the frames directly on smartphone.

Oh gawd this thing, again; this has been done over at least twice before.

Expensive toy. Use your eyeballs and learn something in the process.

Unless your eyeballs have problems. EAA, or electronically assisted astronomy, is certainly a real thing. Good EAA cameras exist, the ASI294 is fairly well regarded by EAA people. Fast frame rates, high sensitivity, and software to stack frames, is required. For people with disabilities, whether in terms of vision or movement, EAA can provide a viable alternative to visual observation. Let's not forget that the human eye will, for most folks, lose its capabilities over time, and EAA allows many people to stay involved.
However, as noted below, the EVscope is not a top quality solution.

I know nothing about imaging but the mount and tripod looks a little flimsy to me to be holding a scope that will stack image on image as well as the fact for the same money you can get a serious setup, Now i have seen a little more about it I'm not a fan......
