If only we had the technology to create water, from, say seawater. And to lay pipes over long distances to connect dams and river systems to deliver water to areas that need it.

Would you really want to be drinking the water from the bottom of that dam. Typically they don't draw down to the dead storage level. Might be ok for livestock but you don't want your kids drinking it. Trucking in potable water is the only option, other than bore water.
Chaffey has been well below useful storage level for years and nothing was done. The political will have to exist, and the various politicians don't want to admit they stuffed up.

Yep things are looking grim for folk in town.
Tamworth primarily uses dungowan dam for drinking water. I have no clue how full it is. Silly thing is. A release is due to happen soon and will end up looking like Keepit dam nearby. I I live out of town and have my own water supply, it’s rough going on level 5 restrictions in town.

A pipe from a desalination plant on the coast barely 200km away to the headwaters on the range. Seems good in theory anyway.

Glen. Chaffey has its capacity doubled a while ago. And not long after it filled up.
The “environmental releases” are what has diminished Chaffey, keepit, and splitrock.
Dungowan dam has the go ahead to increase capacity but that should have been done years ago. Need the infrastructure in and more importantly the rain to fill it up.

Our water supply is likely to be running out in March, latest May. Our water comes from Burrendong dam that is only just about 2% full we are told. One mine closed already and another one is about to drill for water deep underground.
