So, who's up for some observing on Saturday 17 March at Kulnura?
I am expecting my new scope on Friday 16th, so all things being equal, there will be a 20" dob for anyone interested in gathering a large dose of photons. It'll be her maiden voyage! :eyepop:
I won't bring my kids this time, so hopefully no early exits!:P

Rod, that's a big drawcard! :)
Will be there if things work out.
I'll need help exiting the paintball place though. Last time I took a wrong turn and spent ten minutes driving around an adjacent paddock looking for the exit! :screwy:

Although I would love to see Rod's new toy, I am otherwise committed that evening...
It is my wife's birthday and she has informed me nicely that I am taking her out to dinner that is not "fast food" or "take away"...and we have tickets to the Rugby...although the Tahs are not traveling so well I suspect I should go with her.
I hope your first light goes well Rod!

Thanks Scott, you can take in some photons at SPSP15 instead.
Hope you have a lovely time with SWMBO. :)

now then Scott
I'm sure we could find a candle or two between us all, and froggy would let you cook on the barbecue - a few sausages specially catered for by the "sausageman" and shipped down maybe
candlelight dinner under the stars
WHAT WOULD BE MORE FITTING ?
BUT TO THE TRICKY BIT !
you would have to hire a limo to pick her up to take her to the SECRET location (that way the limo could take her and the kids home and you could stay) (to clean up the barbecue of course)

While that sounds great to me...I think her plans are a bit different...if only you guys could sing romantic ballands of love :) ...she would really enjoy being serenaded I am sure...so next time at Kulunura I'll bring my "tune buckets" so that you can all carry a tune!;)

12-03-2007, 10:52 PM
your "tune buckets" may be better used at Ilford after Rod and Mike (and a few others) get onto that "RED" stuff Scott
they tend to stay sober and not be in a singing mood at kulnura

Sorry fellas I have a big Football and Martial Arts weekend this time round.
As you all know I don't get to attend too many get togethers during the football season. Have a great night (if it's still on) and I look forward to seeing the 20" in the not too distant future Rod.

I am pleased to advise that I am one happy owner of a new 20" SDM scope. :jump: :jump: :jump: :jawdrop: :party2:
She arrived in the boot of the master craftsman, Peter Read, who came at about 5.30pm this afternoon. Having had blue skies all day, we just had time to set the scope up in my backyard when the rain started. Never mind....she has a dry home in the newly cleared garage. We had to be satisfied with James Squires beer, nibblies and Thai for dinner.
The forecast looks crap for tomorrow too, but any chance of clear skies, and I'll be there at Kulnura tomorrow night with bells on! Hope to see y'all there.:D

and i was SOoooooooo looking forward to to-morrow nite - and you had to take delivery of the new scope and the ensueing curse
we have to make a rule that gear is not purchased or delivered the week either side of the new moon to at least give us a chance of our observing nites out
OH! and remember - the wife and kids are still in the house
:campfire: no camping out in the garage with the new baby

Congratulations Rod on your new scope. Weather wise - you only have yourself to blame... 20" - we may have weeks of rain because of you...
Is it possible to meet at Kulnura during a week or next weekend?

Hi,
Is there anyone who knows if the weather is Ok in Kulnura?
And what about the forecast for the next hours?
Cheers
Rodstar
17-03-2007, 07:22 PM
Jonathan, you'll have to wait until next time. There is thick cloud and steady rain on the Central Coast (at least for the moment). It looks well set-in. Have a night in. At least West Wing is on.

You're not kidding, Deeno. I am setting the alarm for 3am in the hope of some clear skies. We are yet to experience first light. VERY frustrating, but to be honest I have been enjoying the view of the scope itself!!:)
Are you just going to observe from home Rod?
Rodstar
17-03-2007, 08:59 PM
That's the plan, if it is clear, RB. Unless you tell me that the skies are clearing up near you??!!

I stayed at home. The weather in Sydney was bad so I didn't move.
Look forward for the next time!
I wish I could say it cleared up but it hasn't, it's been raining here all night.

Maybe next weekend - post election wrap first quarter observing? :)
Rodstar
18-03-2007, 07:49 AM
RB...yeah, was still thick with cloud at Pt Clare at 3am...so I went straight back to the land of nod.
Iceman....that sounds like a plan to me! We could do some lunar observing while waiting for things to darken up a bit?? If we don't go out next weekend, then SPSP15 will be the first chance I have to observe under dark skies with my new girl.
Rodstar
18-03-2007, 08:13 AM
Further to my previous post, I wonder if it might be an idea to look at a Friday night observing session this coming week, instead of Saturday? New moon is today, so we will be up to a 5.5 day moon by Friday, setting at about 11.20pm. That should leave us some solid time for some dark sky work, and also the opportunity, if the weather is nasty, to have Saturday as a fall-back.
What do you all think? It is easy for me because I work from home on Fridays. I guess for some of us, it could be a real problem to come after work??
You guys name the day(night) and I'll be there.
Surely we can get one clear night to dance with the new girl.
:)

Next friday is fine for me.

18-03-2007, 10:52 AM
yep - friday could be a goer here - saturday as a fall-back a good plan
a little lunar observing never hurt anyone - besides it will provide a little light for the late comers to set up in
friday weather outlook is positive at the moment according to Dweather

SWMBO informs me that Friday is far better than Saturday for her, so can I be so bold as to say "Friday it is"????
Friday's better for me too, it's my daughter Elizabeth's birthday on Saturday.
We need to check with Froggy first though.
