The Helix nebula (NGC 7293), is a large planetary nebula located in the constellation Aquarius. The estimated distance is about 700 light-years.


2 versions


HOO is just a bi colour narrow band composition where HA is red and OIII is green and blue.


The other image is a composition of HA and OIII to make a green channel.


Skywatcher 72ED
HEQ5 Pro Beltmod
ZWO1600mm with filters
HA 22 x 15min 330
OIII 24 x 15min 360
Total 11.5hr

Have you done this with your 72ED or am I reading it wrongly ?
Excellent result if so.
The second version with the synthetic green I think looks better.

Yes, I did use my Skywatcher 72ED to take the image. I do live in somewhat dark skies. I'm around bortle 3/4.

I also like the synthetic green version also, really makes the image pop.

Well that's even more impressive then. Being 1000m up wont be doing you any harm either ! I stayed in Katoomba a night on my way down to Parkes for the 50th moon landing celebrations recently. Got my Star Adventurer & camera out. Twas VERY cold and windy so I didnt stay out long.
