G'day, I have finally spent some money on a half decent scope (skywatcher ED100 Evostar) that came with only the 2 inch LET 28mm eyepiece, I have a 1.25 inch celestron 6mm and 15mm. I also have a 1.25 inch PL10mm and PL20mm from the Australian Geographic Newtonian. Plus a 1.25 inch Celestron 2X Power doubling lens.
Is it worth the money to buy a 2 inch barlow and some more two inch eyepieces, I read somewhere that the quality isn't an issue between 1.25 inch and 2 inch eyepieces.
Should I buy some higher quality eye pieces or do I have enough to not warrant more money?

In short Peter, Yes it's definitely worth having good eyepieces, not necessarily the most expensive but, definitely worth upgrading from the supplied with scope eps.

Thank you, Are the zoom eyepieces worth buying or are they similar to zoom lenses for cameras?

I think I considered your dilemma when i bought my first scope (2007)
the guys at bintel talked me out of the zoom eyepiece
better to put the money into 1 or two better quality ep's (tv's) of the range you are likely to use

in my opinion I would also avoid buying sets of ep's because you'll probably end up only using 2 of them

I think your comparison with zoom camera lenses is correct also
you just cant beat a canon "L" prime lens

happy shopping

Peter,
I have a full compliment of Televue eye pieces and have built up my collection over 4 years. They are used in my 6” , 8” and 12” newts
The only TV eye piece range I was a bit disappointed in were the Delites , I had 2 and sold them in the past year
If you decide to you choose TV they are a long term investment obviously due to their cost but will not disappoint in any telescope
Recommendations would be the Delos and Panoptic range and maybe an Ethos or 2 but obviously purchased over time
Bintel have a special on at the moment with Televue eye pieces , so worth checking out the savings , they are only going to get more expensive
I also have the Paracorr type 2 coma corrector which is absolutely brilliant, especially in the 12” Goto dob
Others may have further advice on other great eye pieces but these will not disappoint if your current and future budget allows
Good luck !

I also have a full set of TV Powermates for both visual and lunar / planetary imaging
With visual they work extremely well in any scope but for imaging it depends on your image scale / pixel scale but generally superior to standard Barlow’s
Here’s some images taken with my Canon 600D through a 6” f6 newt and 5 x Powermate at prime focus
