Continuing on with hunting for galaxies this week at my weekender on the south coast , captured NGC 253 an edge on spiral galaxy located in the constellation of Sculptor. With a brightness of magnitude 8.0 it is a great target measuring 22’ x 3.5’ and easily found with my 8” f5
Conditions for imaging were excellent ( no wind, no moon, no dew, low Jetstream, good seeing )

8”f5 Bintel GSO newt on an EQ6-R Mount
Canon 600D unmodded with Baader coma corrector
Home made 60mm cooling fan
ISO 800
30 x 5 minute dithered guided subs
20 x darks
Captured with BYEOS
Goto and tracking EQMOD, Stellarium Scope and Stellarium
PHD2 guiding using Hysteresis at 0.70 to 0.80 arc sec error ( even better than the previous night )
Stacked in DSS
Processed in Startools

Thanks for looking, comments always welcome

PS: I probably repeat my details each time I post images but I do that so folk who are just starting out in AP can see some brief astro technical info and what can be achieved in AP with just a budget Newtonian reflector, an old Canon DSLR and low to mid end mount plus odds and sods. I think most beginner folk go for the small refractor to start out with which is fine but don’t discard the newt even the 6” ( as Alex always mentions )

Another commendable image Martin, repeating the details is, I'm sure, a help to anyone contemplating stepping in to the bottomless pit with the endless vistas above.
Keep it up , don't stop now, never tire of seeing everyones' imaging efforts.

That's really very nice. Should be in the pro-imaging section !

You better slow down as you must be running out of universe:)
I think it is a great image and I do like the text you always provide.

Thanks for the kind comments guys
I’m taking advantage of a week down at my dark site with great conditions so far , captured NGC 6744 last night ( still to process ) and hope to capture NGC 300 tonight if the forecast cloud stays away until 1.00am
Back to light polluted Sydney and Bortle 8 skies tomorrow arvo , yuck plus Mr Moon is growing bigger too by the day
Tuesday night was the best night all year so far, a real gem , got to bed at 4.00am but it was worth it

Cheers

Very cool image. I have been chasing that 253 Galaxy for a while with DSLR and LRGB. Have not any where near that standard yet. I am trying again as I type. Well done.

Thanks Ray
Conditions make up the majority of the quality of your image and that night conditions were excellent, best all year so far
Cheers
