With an apparent size 1/3 that of other more popular galaxies positioned well in the current galaxy season, like NGC 1097 and NGC 1365 and less than 1/10 the size of the perennial favourites up at the moment, like NGC 253 and NGC 55 et al, NGC 1350 in Fornax is a little more challenging to get a good image of...and needs some decent conditions to reveal some of the fine structures in its ring like arms :)
It's a lovely subtle galaxy, nearly 90 Million light years away, hence it's modest size of 6' X 3' and it shows very little obvious star forming going on, hence the lack of any significant pink HII regions.
Hope you like something not seen very often

The full frame full resultion image is HERE (https://pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/169967531/original)..personally I recommend opening the full frame full res image and then shrinking it just enough in your browser to fit on your screen so little or no scrolling is required

That's a cracker, Mike. Love it. I'll have to give up the galaxy king crown now I think ;-)
Good to see you doing more high res images again.

That's a stunner. That's why we do astrophotography - to get images like that.

Hi Mike, that is so smooth and rich, like a good coffee with swirls.
Love all the background goodies as well, gives a scale beyond comprehension.
10 points to Gryffindor!!
something to aspire to.:eyepop:

Hi Mike,
well done on a very difficult target at mag 11.5
and you pulled detail out of something 87 million light years away!
cheers

...maaate you have been pumping out great galaxy images for a while now, your work is inspirational, literally.....it was your images that dragged me away from the brilliant FSQ and back to the 12" ;)...I just had to have me some'o that, brother!
Well Glen, it's not really a wow galaxy but it is certainly beautiful for it's gentle subtlety I recon :)
Great stuff Greg
Thanks Graham, I like the coffee analogy

Thanks Big Al :)

I got lost in the image for a while, distracted by all the other little galaxies around as well. Quite enjoyable! :) Nice bit of work, Mike.

Beautiful! Awesome structural detail for an image of such a small galaxy.

Really nice details in the dust lanes and heaps of faint fuzzies in the fov. Top shot.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

There's an interesting faint whitish blob a 4 o'clock that looks like a dwarf companion galaxy that is probably responsible for the slight warping of the galaxy.

Lovely shot Mike! Good structural detail and plenty of faint fuzzies to look at in the field as well. Nice one!
Some annoying colour noise in the galaxy though ... to be expected with only 60 min RGB I guess.

The main galaxy is exquisite. The very sharp viewing conditions have shown up a huge number of very distant fellows in the background, which for us add greatly.
Delicious.

Cheers Chris, yes panning around looking for faint fuzzies seems to be a popular affliction with many of us deep sky imagers
Thanks Pete
Cheers Marc
Yes perhaps Greg, it seems quite circular though, which suggests no gravitational tidal forces are at play..? Or perhaps the blob is just not clear enough in my data..?
Cheers Marcus  yes a little colour noise (the colour data was collected through some annoying high cloud on Tues night ) which is probably more noticeable on more contrasty screens but meah, doesn't bother me too much...in fact after a while, you hardly notice it, unless you look for it :)

Agreed, strangely, faint fuzzies can induce child like feelings of glee and giddiness :P

Is it just me or can anyone else see an air hockey puck about to score a goal between those two bright stars? :nerd:
Crackerjack image Mike - very well framed, seen & produced :D

It’s a fantastic image Mike, far more impressive than if you’d pointed the FSQ at it
Even with the slight colour noise the detail more than makes up for it

That's a charming unloved galaxy, balancing the faint fuzzies with bright stars. The outer ring seems a little bluer with possible new star formation without the HII fireworks. I shall now have another faint fuzzy tour which always makes me smile especially when a tiniest faint fuzzy shows a hint of a bright nucleus.

Thanks Andy and yes, I see that ...puckin amazing
Thanks Erik
Thanks Col, ha ha yeah, it would have looked a little insignificant in a 4deg X 4deg field
Actually, I have cut back too...hard when you live in the same building as a multi award winning craft beer brewery :eyepop: :help:
Thanks John, yeah "charming" is a good description
and go faint fuzzies :2thumbs:

Lovely interesting looking galaxy Mike. Good detail in some of its little friends. I'll have to add it to my to-do list.

Thanks Geoff  quite a few galaxies around this size up there this time of year, usually get overlooked though for the bigger more showy characters. I'm currently hitting another one of these modest criters right now :D

A nice myriad of smaller galaxies in this field too, but the main galaxy is really nice. I like the detail around the core area and how the outer arms almost look like they are about to form a ring. An interesting galaxy.

Yes, the subtle near circular single arm is intriguing
