Hi To All at IIS

It's a great site that Iceman has setup here.

I'm up in the Cairns region and when I'm not dodging cyclones I'm trying to find places with lots of nice open cloudless sky.

Any recommendations on good viewing spots in the Cairns / Atherton Tablelands area would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Hello and welcome Blaznee, I've been waiting for some better weather as well. There is an astronomy group in Cairns maybe they can help with some observing sites. http://www.users.bigpond.com/jamesbak.htm

Welcome Blaznee, hope you have a great time here.
I'm at the other end of the country so it's a bit hard for me to advise of any good spots near Cairns
Still if it's dark and there are no streetlights then it's probably a good spot.

Cheers

Hi Guys and Girls

Thanks for the welcome

Like Mick, down in Mackay, I am forsaken with soggy skies during the wet season. It would be nice if we could send the rain down south where it is really needed.

Fortunately the Atherton Tabelands offers some brilliant observing sites so I will be packing up the car with the kit, snacks and bevvies to go in search of the bestest place to rejoice under a veil stars.

Hi Shawn

Nice skies around Ravenshoe (Crows Boot). Milla Milla mountain spring to mind. I will be heading up there once the wet abates.

hi neighbour! :)

Chillagoe's a good place - you can stay at the observatory and there's a field away from any lights that you can set up a telescope in, right next to their dome.

Shawn - where do you do at Milla Milla? Can you camp there? (with facilities - my partner's a reluctant bush camper)

:welcome: Blaznee,

I have a sister lives up at Chillagoe so i'm expecting to do regular trips up to see her when i get my scope.

Cheers,

Hi Duncan

I spent a lot of time at Tinaburra skiing and enjoy the night skys. No scope then unfortuneately but a few nights spent at the Lake Eacham Hotel.

Hope to be back up there when the skies clear.
