View Full Version here: : Correct location for SCT dew heater?

I have an Edge11 and have been placing the dew heater around the corrector cell, but this makes it hard to wrap the dewshield over the top. I figured this position allows for the best heat transfer into the corrector plate.

However, I’ve seen a few people now wrapping the dew heater around the tube itself, immediately behind the corrector cell.

So does anyone have experience with which works better?

I put mind down towards where the base is. It's worked fine.

Hi Russell

I have mine inside the dew shield. Take a look at this link for some photos.

Around the tube below the corrector cell is good. I have a wrap-around insulating dew shield that extends down over the OTA and the heater is inside the dew shield, so the heat stays inside.

Warming the metal tube is probably the best way to distribute the heat to achieve even gentle warming to the air inside.

Thanks guys,
As I suspected, a variety of replies...
I haven’t had a problem with where I’ve been using mine except for the fact that it increases the diameter around which my dewshield must wrap around.. so it’s hard to get the dewshield on.

Just below the corrector plate. There is an article about this on a heater site.
I'll see if I can find it. It was basically saying it actually reduces tube thermal currents.

I have found that worked well on my Riccardi Honders.
