Hi all,
The 29th NACAA is now only six months away, and all the committees are working hard to create the best NACAA ever.
The Programme Committee is happy to announce our distinguished invited speakers:

Renowned planetary imager Anthony Wesley will be presenting our Keynote Address (https://nacaa.org.au/2020/event/1770). This talk will highlight how amateur astronomers can contribute to astronomical science.
The Perdrix Address (https://nacaa.org.au/awards/PerdrixAddress) will be presented by long-time NACAA member Ray Johnston. In a break with tradition, Ray will be the dinner speaker (https://nacaa.org.au/2020/event/1780). This promises to be an entertaining presentation.

We've had a good response to last month's call for presentations. There's still room for more talks, but don't leave it until the December 15 deadline. Click here (https://nacaa.org.au/2020/cfp) to read our guidelines and submit a proposal. And, yes, we really want new speakers to present. If you're not sure your proposal is "worthy enough", send it in!
And don't forget: we already have two symposia and five workshops scheduled. Visit the Preliminary Programme (https://nacaa.org.au/2020/programme) to see all the details.
Registrations for NACAA 2020 will open in December. In the meantime, don't leave booking your accommodation too late. Read the LOC's advice here (https://nacaa.org.au/2020/accomm) and make your booking soon.
Stephen Russell
2020 PC Chair.

Uh, just what is NACAA, just for those of us that have never heard of It? Love a good obscure mnemonic.

A quick Google throws up all sort of possibilities, from New Approaches in the Conservation of Contemporary Art, to National Aboriginal Capital Corporations Associations, National Conference of College Cost Accounting, National Association of Consumer Credit Administrators, etc etc.

As none of these highest search rankings seem to have anything to do with astronomy, a hint might be in order?

And to be clear, the 'c' is pronounced 'k' and the 'aa' is just 'a'. Yep, the founders didn't shy away from controversy. ;)

Funny that, I tried in both chrome and Duck and top hits for both were for the National Australian Convention for Amateur Astronomers... :-)

Hi Glen,I note that you have been on iceinspace for six years, and in that six years NACAA has ben widely publicised at least on year in advance prior to the event, on iceinspace forums calling for papers and general information
How you have missed it for all this time I don't know:question:
In fact NACAA has been apart of iceinspace since iceinspace started in 2004.
Maybe you should pop along next year and find out what it's all about.;)
I've been to three and may just go to the one next year.
Cheers:thumbsup:
