I thought the last one of this was very yellow, so I adjusted the colours a bit. Anyway here it is.

How about posting the two together. I don't recall the first (yellow) one, but feel this one a too magenta.

Hmmmm, thanks, and no it doesn't make it any easier, sorry. To me one is too magenta, and the other too yellow. Both are good though.
How do you get the colours like that though, mine don't come out like that. I have one somewhere, I took a while back.

Gary the yellow colour is the natural colour that comes out of the D70, the blue one is using variations in photoshop; I hit the blue button twice and it came out with the violet colour.

I much prefer the original. I loved that shot as soon as I saw it. It's been imprinted in my mind ever since. The reprocessed one looks nice, but "lifeless" (and hard to believe globs really look like that blueish sterilised thing). The original has that golden shimmer that makes it look so much more real and makes you want to go look at it for yourself...

Edit: Sorry, the one I was thinking of wasn't your shot but John Drummond's. That also has a golden tinge to it. Your original shot is beautiful though...

Magificent shot! What exposure/camera settings did you use, Paul?

Bear in mind that I have my scope polar aligned and yours is Alt-az. This means you will have to take lots of shots no greater than 30 secs otherwise you will get star trailing, unless you have a field derotator. If you don't I have one for sale that is very moderately priced.

Thanks for that Paul. I would love a polar aligned scope or a field derotator but for the time being I'm really interested in exploring all the possibilities and stretching out all the limitations of an alt-az arrangement. Down the track could be another matter.

By the way, you have the remote for the D70, don't you? I was using it for the first time last night and had trouble getting it to operate. It's very sensitive about where you point it. Where's the sensor on the camera?

The sensor is on the left hand side front of the camera. It took me a while to find it too. Yes it is very sensitive where you point it. But once you get it you will not have any trouble with it. Incidently, the field derotator is designed for alt-az setup. You might want to think about that.
