This is an image of NGC7000 The North American Nebula in HOO that I recently entered into the RPS's Science Photographer Of The Year Competition, didn't win it but was selected down to the last 10 out of 3000+ images, and my image is being exhibited at the London Science Museum during October/September.

This is the newspaper release of the exhibition and the selected images https://www.theguardian.com/science/gal ... -shortlist (https://www.theguardian.com/science/gallery/2019/aug/14/rps-2019-science-photographer-of-the-year-shortlist)

The North America nebula is one of my favourite deep space objects and this is without doubt one of the best versions with the nicest colouration I have seen !

Very nice Dave! Having a lot at some of the other images in that link you had some amazing and tough competition. The images were so varied!

Just been having a look at your link to the very stiff competition you were up against, so excellent work for getting so far. Cheers:)

That'a a great image!
Many others have imaged this nebula but you have chosen a harmonious colour palette and clever cropping to make it look very dynamic, very well done :thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks for all the feedback and kind words. Being a science competition they need varied images as these will be viewed mainly by the public....I do have an SHO version but I much prefer this version with it slightly different colouration.

Thanks Andy, the colours did take a bit of fiddling with to get them right, and the cropping is just based on the rule of thirds and the old left to right rule.

BTW, I think congratulations are in order for yourself being shortlisted in the Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition for you Helix Nebula......very well done, the shortlist can be viewed here for those that don't know:-

Thanks Nik, Rodney and David for your comments.
Here is the SHO that did not make the grade for inclusion in the competition.

That's a very nice image Dave, the SHO is nice but the HaOIII bicolour palette works quite well here too. Congratulations on having your work rated so highly in the RPS's Science Photographer Of The Year Competition too
