Why have people lost interest in Saturn? :(

I'm seeing a lot more threads with pics of Jupiter in here. What's the go?? Saturn's opposition wasn't that long ago...we can't be bored with her already :shrug:

Is it Saturn's relatively low altitude? Is it the fact that the rings are closing up? Are we all having bad seeing conditions for Saturn? Or do people prefer to wake up early in the morning to image Jupiter?

While the Jupiter images are great, I was kinda expecting a few more Saturn picture threads :P

If you can get rid of the cloud for me Swannies I'll look and image as much as you like. ;)

But I think you are partly right about the low angle. Getting a good image does become a bit problematic at such a low altitude, especially for you southern brothers and sisters.

I'm sure Bris Veganites and our far northern Kin would be more than happy to oblige you if it weren't for our fickle cloud cover.

Yeah, I have had only one good imaging session for Saturn so far. Saturn pretty much travels through the city lights and haze for me

I don't bother with Saturn anymore but I did post one taken from Kulnura last weekend. It'll probably by my last for this apparition.

Pretty much what the other guys have said.

Not high enough for most of us in the south. Will be better in coming years though.

Jupiter is more than twice as large and bright, and as Davo says it has such changing features. It's a very exciting target.

That's not to say Saturn isn't a beautiful object in its own right. Coz that goes without saying.

But from an imagers perspective you're more excited by dynamic systems which are forever changing, and offer plenty of tiny details to be captured:)
