It doesn't get much better than it was in Melbourne Friday night. No cloud and no moon. Took these with the 8 inch Newt and modded Canon 550d 1600iso.
Ngc 253, 38 minutes. Ngc 7293, 40 minutes. 1 minute unguided subs on Heq5pro mount.

Excellent captures. I am starting to wonder if narrow band for me was a good choice.
For me to get either of those I would need 20 minutes with each filter and no doubt more and you can add 10 minutes to refocus...I am thinking to set my eight up with a modded camera if I can get one without too much investment...Well done. It seems to take an hour to get 40 minutes worth I have noticed..

Perfect images Michael,
Love the colours of the Helix
Looks like 40 mins is the golden time for your setup.
Might have a crack at these 2 with my 6 inch when it finaly clears up.
Cheers

40mins was all I could keep out of about 60. I realised when packing up that I hadn't tightened the the big screw underneath the tripod to the EQ mount. I was probably lucky I had 40 usable subs. I was set up to auto guide but my laptop died after one sub. :mad2:
Thanks for the compliments Andy, glad you like them and I hope you have a chance to capture these through your 6 inch.

Narrow band is another step up that brings all kinds of challenges. Good on you for giving it a go and you've produced some great images to encourage you to continue. My step up is autoguiding but that didn't work for me on Friday night, so I just went back to my old unguided method and the results aren't too bad. If I had a permanent set up then I would be more enthusiastic to use auto guiding and maybe narrow band but because I'm always moving my rig around to different locations, I like to keep it simple. Thanks for your comments Alex.:)

They are some beauties Mick. I'm not sure that it can get any better than that. Awesome work!

Thanks Tony and LostInSp_ce. I'm glad you like them, I was pretty happy with the result myself after a comedy of errors that night. My brain just wasn't functioning as it should have and the session was a lot more difficult than it should have been. It happens sometimes.
