I have a second car that pretty well sits in the driveway and gets driven once a month, and of course I don't have a telescope, so I am will to do a straight swap.
Naturally I would like a reasonably good telescope in exchange for this fully going Camira (white) which is currently insured with the NRMA for $3,000.00. This car is no limo, but will probably still be going in 10 years, they just built these like tanks.
For the details you can PM me, the car has had a lot of work done recently, things like new radiator hoses and the like. You can test drive it and bring your mechanic with you, it's a good reliable car for the price. I'll attach a photograph tomorrow, it's raining too much to go outside with the camera right now. I don't have anything against Dob's but don't really want one preferably.

Well with all the rain in Sydney lately, the car is clean at least

Hi again, a couple of people PM'ed me wondering what sort of telescope I was looking for, they though I would probably want an extremely good scope. I told them that I really am open to any reasonable offer, so technically any good working telescope could be good. Let's face it, any telescope is better than none. I was hoping to attract someone who had maybe two or three scopes and hardly ever used one of them, because they love their main one. I hope this helps, just send a PM with your telescope spec's and I'll let you know.

If anyone local to Prospect wants to test drive the car, that's no problem :) as far as the telescope goes, if there is an unequitable trade, naturally a cash component either way can be included in the deal. Anything is possible. ;)

Okay, not wanting to sound desperate or anything like that, would it help if I filled the tank with petrol, instead of the 1/4 tank that it has now???
Seriously, I am serious
Surely someone in or near Sydney/Blacktown/CBD/greater metropolitan area has a used second hand telescope collecting dust, that they wouldn't mind swapping for a car, (Yes it has seats).
PM me even if your mildly considering it, I don't expect the worlds best telescope, just something that has been well looked after and not knocked about. The size doesn't really matter and I guess I would even take a Dob if I had no other offers.

That'll generate a little feedback:P

Did it sound a little too desperate? Do you think people will see through my attempt to outrage

Ron, just a quick thought, if you don't get any takers, why don't you sell the car and have fun buying a new scope, maybe a new 10" Dob or similar?

Hmmmnnnnn that's the logical thing to do, however I would have loved to be able to say, "I'm the bloke that swapped his car for a telescope", it would have sort of placed me in 'strange & eerie company. :P
I suppose then the only fair thing is to swap the car for an oil spaced APO.

I have to admit I had to look up what you were talking about, and it turns out to be very impressive: http://www.telescope-service.com/TEC/TECstart.html (http://www.telescope-service.com/TEC/TECstart.html)
So there you go, always learning :P
Btw, I have a very nice list member visiting tomorrow to take the car through it's paces, so I will give an update as soon as a positive result is known

Okay, I know what you're all thinking, this has got to be a gag, but I can assure you that there is a happy forum member who is now the proud owner of a fully working car which he received for swapping one of his telescopes which he wasn't using very much.
I don't know if this is a world first or not, but three cheers for the power of IIS, which made these unique possibilities come to pass.
been keeping an eye on this thread. it's certainly the most insteresting buy/sell/trade article i have ever seen :)

Hi, well remembering that we both got what we wanted, we were never really interested in converting down to a dollar value, in this case it was a pure barter in it's simplest form.
The telescope is a Synta (Chinese Factory made) 6 inch (150mm aperture with 1200mm focal length) Sky-Watcher plus a 6x50 finder, and a 40mm Plossil eyepiece on a EQ5 mount with clock drives in both axis, on a sturdy aluminium tripod.
I'll attach a photograph soon. Oh yes last thing, I am a beginner, so this is meant to be a starter scope, so at this stage a 6 inch refractor is well and truly big enough for me to start with.
6" refractor is a monster :)
you'll love it :)
there are a few members who have one of those :)

Cool, that's encouraging. Okay here are a couple of images that the seller sent me, I haven't had time to take any photographs myself yet.
