I should have had the entire Veil complex in this image but mucked up the framing, just catching the edge instead. I can only see it for one hour as it moves low on the horizon between our house and a tree. Despite that it shows up surprisingly well.

Nice shot! You're pumping them out lately.

Thanks Marc, we're lucky to get one clear evening per week lately so I make the most of it.
I'll definitely target the Veil again over two nights to get 2 hours worth of subs.
Also looking forward to the Vela SNR in future.

I also tried Sh2-1 around Pi Scorpii on the same night but it's faint - going to need a few hours of exposures.

Nice capture Tony, I'd love to have a go at this area with the Esprit 100 at some stage, maybe when it rises a little higher. Too many trees around my place. There's some good detail coming through on your shot despite its low position in the sky. Good stuff, you've been very busy of late, keep them coming.

Thanks Mick. I suspect it needs some sort of narrow band to show up well, either an L-Enhance/STC Duo or individual OIII/Ha filters.

Is the veil low in the North? No luck in my backyard

Yeah the Veil is at Dec +30. It's fairly close to due north at about 11pm.

For comparison M27 is at Dec +22 and it's already fairly low for me.

I’d love to give this one a crack with the STC Duo but there’s zero chance for me from home. It’s at 21.5deg at its peak around 11pm. Maybe one day I’ll plan a road trip north for this one.

It would be worth a trip out of town Ryan - pretty cool looking object. It's fascinating to think that all of that material was a star 8000 years ago.

I battled the clouds and scratched together 42 minutes last night - just need one decent night to get another hour to add to this.

Very nice. A worthwhile target well caught.

Thanks guys. I'm happy with how it turned out given that it's low in the murk from my place. I'm determined to get another hour or two to make it shine :)

Thanks Nathan. I can't recall seeing the Veil in the beginners forum before; it should be more accessible to members in most of Australia.

Added another 90 minutes, not sure of my processing though - might have to revisit.

Reprocessed and I'm much happier with this result

Tony,
The reprocess is a winner- that's got all the hallmarks of a fine astro image - well done - you can put your feet up knowing you've done a great job here.

Thanks Chris and Anthony. It's all too easy to over-process an image, but I also used deconvolution to shrink the stars in the final image.

I've now got a list of targets in Cygnus but only an hour on any clear night to catch them - could be a long project.
