Jupiter this morning, Feb 26th, 07 from Melbourne

Hi everyone,

Left the scope out overnight and go up early this morning for Jupiter. Seeing at 6/10 with the mirror at 1.5 degrees above ambient.

300 frames split in RGB and processed in Astra Image and Photoshop.

It's great to have Jove back!

Excellent detail, John. I expect when you have a look later you'll find it very blue.

I've had a quick play in AI and Photoshop. Hope that's ok.

Lovely - better than I saw this morning naked eye as I climbed sleepily into the car to go to the gym/work!

Sorry to be so lacking in knowledge, hence questions?

Which of the moons is casting the shadow? One of the two visible in the photo?

That shadow looks BIG? Is that size typical or is this a particularly big shadow from a more distance moon?

I've done a bit of research which I should have done before I asked. Upper moon in photo is Europa? Lower moon is Ganymede? The shadow belongs to Europa? Yes?

Thanks Erick, yes the moons are Europa (top) & Ganymede (bottom).

I think the shadow is quite large and suspect it's actually Ganymede but could be wrong.

p.s. the image was taken at 17:50UTC not 18:50UTC as shown on my image.

Thanks John. Sky View Cafe says that the shadow belongs to Europa (and best matches your image at 6:00am Eastern Daylight Saving time).
