I finally managed to get the data needed to do a comparison.

I couldn't really do a comparison on Jupiter as even when they were they same angular size (35.1"), my 10" Jupiter images were taken with a ToUcam whereas the 12" Jupiter image was taken with a DMK21AF04 (with filter wheel etc acting as an extension).

But this comparison is with the same 5x powermate, DMK21AF04 + filterwheel, with the only difference being the tube - between my old 10" newt vs my new 12" newt. The diameter of Saturn in both cases is the same (20").

10" newt - f/5 - 1250mm FL
12" newt - f/5 - 1500mm FL

The extra focal length is of course magnified with the powermate + extension tube.

Both images taken at 15fps (1/15s exposure), with the OTA on an EQ6.

I love the extra image scale my 12" gives!

I'd agree Mike - the 12" 'scope outguns the 10". A very nice illustration showing the gain in size.

Cheers

Yeah a great comparison Mike and nicely presented.
