Area around NGC 6604 in Ha

Hi all,

I recently came across this quite cool part of the Milky Way and thought of giving it a shot. Unfortunately my ever trusty Lodestar started playing up so guiding was not as precise as it could have been. On top of that we had a few clear nights with the bright one shining exceedingly and this very target was quite close from the bright one when I was collecting most of the data. But any data is better than no data.

About 20 hours through my guidescope (could most likely reach a similar result with half the exposure on darker nights or if further away from the moon): https://www.astrobin.com/full/421289/0/?nc=all

I am hoping to add colour in the coming weeks.

Intriguing bit of sky Suavi, nice work, that bright bit is really amazing, looks just like The Beast from Beauty and the Beast, Wilson from Castaway and Groot from Guardians of the Galaxy :P :lol:

Nice area Suavi. I had a go at this a while back in LRGB but your Ha picture works much better.

Most unusual, off the cliche'd track. A very fine image. When I first saw it, for a fraction of a second I thought it was the Norma Bipolar nebula, but it really does look much more like Groot. Your image is very deep: the background nebulosity is beautifully shown.

Since this has been a season of experimenting for me (with some ups and downs), so I will try putting together a first one for me HaRGB image of this region utilising PBCCT in PI (photometry-based colour calibration) :)

Weather permitting should have something ready next weekend :prey:

That's a great little neb with unusual features. Do you know its NGC number? I'll have a go at that with the CDK.

It does look like a great target for a larger aperture. It's Gum 85 -HII region, J2000 coordinates: 18 17 54 -11 44 00
