M42 Trapezium Early Days

Inspired by Alex's words I thought I'd post one of my first DSO captures. Taken with a 12 inch Dob and QHY5L-II Mono. Three second video processed in Autostakkert and GIMP. I stacked video frames as opposed to multiple exposures because at the time I didn't know how to use Deep Sky Stacker. The artefacts are from dropped frames because the old laptop I used to record with wasn't powerful enough.

Thanks for the link Glenn there's some killer images there. His solar stuff is amazing! I've often thought about putting the dob on my EQ6 but I'm not game enough to risk it.

What about an equatorial platform?

I used to have my 18inch newtonian on my GEM mount and family has one on an old Meade GEM mount. There are mounts out there ....

That is incredible. Well done indeed.
I had my 12 inch on my EQ6 years ago and it worked ok..I limited it to objects straight up. I think they are strong enough and I think these days with short exposures one could make such a set up work very well.
Anyways thanks for sharing such a fine image.

I really only use it for observing but sometimes at the end of observing I'll put a camera on and see if I can get lucky. At one stage I did look at equatorial platforms but they were pricey and I don't think I can make my own because I've got enough DIY projects that I'll probably never complete.
I have to admit though the views it gives are great, so I can only imagine what they're like through something larger like your old 18 inch.

Thanks Alex it's an old one. One of my first ever. I love the dob, especially for visual. Simple, fast, reliable and is well suited to my location. Maybe one day I'll see if I can get the thing on the EQ6 without breaking anything. If I do I'll be sure to post both the successes and failures.
