widefield crux-carina with 35mm lense

hi all again,
Here`s that widefield I did the other night when I was too tired to do any guiding...Its nice just to sit back and spot some meteorites sometimes while hanging onto the cable remote..:)
Image is 5 x 7min @ iso 400 , 35mm lense @ f/4 Df removed and processed in PS...
Came out quiet noise free but I could have gone deeper as it was very transparent that night. Lots of jpg compression makes it look a bit blurry as well compared to the original.

Great shot, but I think you'll fina that a levels adjustmet will darken up the background quite nicely. (I had a quick go at it.)

Very nice :) It has that nice clear, crisp yet dusty feel to it.

This shot reminds me of some great memories. I used to take my 12" LX200 out in the field, and one time took it to Hyden for a few nights. It was cloudy most nights and then on the last night it cleared up but there was a howling easterly wind. I decided to give it a shot anyway, so setup the LX on its wedge on its giant tripod (bit of an effort), and what a night!

The transparency was great, like you say you had, and after 24 minutes of exposure I ended up with one of my favorite shots ( http://www.rogergroom.com/rogergroom/esh_rog_item.jsp?Item=111 ). Very similar feel I think. This was on film, back in 2003.

I wouldn't darken your shot at all, it's nice not having the contrast too strong.

At the time my girlfriend and I were getting pretty darn sick of sitting around for several days just waiting for the cloud to clear (if you've ever been to Hyden you'll understand why), but in hind sight it was great to just sit around in the middle of nowhere with it stinking hot outside waiting for the cloud to clear. Do a bit of landscape photogrpahy now and then.

Looking at my other widefield shots I think there`s a touch too much red in it...shall tone it down a bit!!
Glad it brought up good old memories Roger...The wideangle shots always makes me think back to my camping trips outback where the milkyway stretches from horizon to horizon and soo dark too..:)
Nice shot too there too Roger.. I always like the way the slide film bloats the bright stars as it makes the constellations really stand out..
