Hi,

Simple question to start - from that, it may answer things, or compound them.

I have tried this with both the Celstron Starsense and Skywatcher HC's.

Left direction key moves left, right, moves right, which way should up and down move ?

For me, press UP, scope moves down, and visaversa - is this correct ?

After all my searching, I have not seen anything, that actually describes which way the scope should move, based on the direction keys of the hand controller. Based on replies, I can then move to my next question.

Cheers

The Up/Down keys on my Mesu 200 hand controller moves opposite to the keys that I had with my EQ6 hand controller.
With the EQ6 the down arrow key moves towards the South pole DEC= -90°, with the Mesu 200 the down arrow key moves towards DEC= 0°, away from the pole.
The changeover was not a big deal, I just had to remember the Mesu 200 was different to what I was used to.

It's like steering a car. Find out by trial and error.

You do realise that the answer depends on how many reflections are involved, optically - each one produces a left-right reversal (or up-down).

Rotate the handset 180 degrees and you've effectively switched opposite buttons.

Reverse the scope on the dovetail and the sense of the dec buttons is reversed. For this reason Skywatcher insists that when using my AZEQ6 in alt-az mode, the scope must always be mounted on the right.

The way it works in my (straight through) finder is correct but since my main scope as a star diagonal, either left/right or up/down are reversed, depending on which way its placed on the mount dovetail base.

I’m not sure about the celestron and skywatcher hand controls, but with my meade audiostar in the settings there is an option to reverse the up/down and left/right motion when keys are pressed. There may be an option in the controller set up for you.

I just remembered when you do a meridian flip with an EQ mount the up/down arrow keys get reversed. i.e Telescope West side of the pier and counterweights East side.

I should have added, this is a GOTO DOB, only one way you can mount the scope.

My Skywatcher 12” Goto dob operates in AzAlt and the handcontroller arrow buttons move the star in that orientation
Up button moves star up when viewed in the eye piece and so forth

That might well be okay, if UP means North, then the mount/scope will head in a Northwards direction, which is below your feet or in other words, below the horizon.:)

So, it "believes" that North is Up so when it heads North, the actual movement relative to you and your local horizon is Down.
