Can't see colour in my images......why

Hi all,

Possibly (no, very probably a dumb question) about lack of colour in my images.

I took this image of Cent A the other night from my bortle 6 skies. 50 x 60sec subs, with darks and bias frames stacked in DSS. My equipment is as follows:
SW 80ED
ASI290MC

I thought I should be able to see some colour in my images but it looks black (grey) and white. Should I be able to see some colour or is my exposure not long enough?

Hi Rene,

You’ve mentioned that you’ve stacked the image in DSS but no further processing. If this is correct then that is why your image looks a bit “ grey “. This is quite normal for the stacked images. The colour is extracted later on in post processing.

make sure the debayering settings in DSS are set to rggb, you will find this in the RAW/Fits settings
Also what software did you use to acquire these images and were the settings in raw 16? RAW 8 will not capture colour in my experience

I'll trying setting the bebayer is DSS.

I'm using KStars/Ekos to capture. I've set iyt to raw but can't remember if it's 8 or 16 bit.

I believe it has an auto-debayer function which I might try tonight.

Gotta love this hobby. More complicated than quantum physics.

You are better off using Sharpcap to capture as the interface is more intuitive
