USB to Com Port Dongle Installation

I have a USB to Com port dongle which I wish to instal on my Win XP astro computer which is not connected to the internet. Any advice on how to go about doing this? Peter

Perhaps try first with comp which is connected to internet, because you may need drivers.
There are some Chinese chips that require specific driver that is not provided by WXP.

You can connect it to a newer computer and, once the drivers are downloaded, you can check in the device manager what the model/manufacturer of the device is (look under COM ports).

Lots of those (not all of course) are either original FTDI devices or clones which use the same drivers (https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm).

Thanks for these tips. The device connected automatically using my Win 10 office PC. I see that the driver is for 32bit so maybe I can use it to instal on my 32bit XP PC.
