Hi folks,
Stripping down my Takahashi NJP mount & 10" newt tuberings etc to powder coat them all black to match my new black & white ioptron tripier.
Any recommendations as to where I can take it to have the coating done well?
preferably south eastern suburbs.
Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy,
It's been a few years since I had anything powder coated, but I used to take my things to this place in Moorabbin: http://aclasspowdercoating.com/page1/page1.html
Charlotte at the front office had an interest in astronomy back then so you may want to mention that your thing are for a telescope.
Cheers,
Stefan

I would be powder coating the Tri-pier in a nice Takahashi Green instead ......:D
I am going to strip my AZ-EQ6 and paint it green....

I can’t stand Tak baby bathtub green, looks like undercoat!
Besides, what’s wrong with a Blackahashi

Dulux Duracoat Satin Black rattle can - go at it after disassembling and masking off things. Cost FAR less, looks pretty much the same, and requires no heating of anything.

Thanks Lewis - I'll have a look once it's dissassembled - Diego's helping me pull the 'scope apart this weekend and I'm taking the mount to Clive for open heart surgery next week. ;)
Here's a (very) rough mockup of what it could all look like when done :)

I reckon it'd look better white than black honestly.

Somewhere in the cosmos a million voices cried out briefly ...... a black Tak NJP, surely such a travesty was never perpetrated......:fight::fight:

I know, I know, but no point fighting it.
It's Andy's...it's wrong, it's sacrilege, but...it's still Andy's. At least painting it in solvent-soluble paint lets someone in the future remove the blasphemy easily compared to powder coating.

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
Aaah Lewis - it's a 4th hand mount but has already gained it's pedigree from several serious astrophotographers prior to it's earning two Malin gongs this year. Check out the guiding graph attached - less than 1 arc second and great value for money at $3k - It's likely that I'll keep it for a very long time :D
That said, with the black & white scope and Celestron tripod it's an incredibly efficient but retina searingly ugly beast - I call it B.U.F.F. (Big Ugly Fast F...) kinda like a Nascar vs. F1 - all grunt..
Once this ugly duckling has been pimped, I'll take true pride of ownership in it! Won't affect it's performance, and it'll look cool :cool3::sunny:
I think in white it would resemble an overgrown EQ6
PS: What was Mr. Taka thinking when he chose pusilanimous baby bathtub green as a branding statement for his products? :screwy:

Lol
You could strip it down and anodise it like those chintzy yank mounts
All good fun - have at it Andy. I wanted to paint an AZ-EQ6 Tak green once

No turning back now, ‘scope is disassembled (thanks Diego!) & the mount is now in Clive’s capable hands for disassembly.... ;)

I have a similar problem - either:
a. paint the green bits white
b. paint the mount green
c. buy Beren's EM-200
You get top marks Colin.
I was hoping someone would pickup the inference.
Lewis, I'd go for option C.
One can never have enough Tak mounts.

Hey Stefan,
Dropped the bits n pieces off to Charlotte & Baz today - nice people - hoping to see the new colours in a week or so. Thanks for the tip :)

Hmmm, do I go Andy's descent into dark worship, or do I follow the path of divine green light?
Or just hire a cleaner to clean up this shambles of a Man Cave? :P
The obsession is deep - since CCDAstro's decal had faded and worn away, I made a replacement for the 12-24V converter...

Hey Lewis, that's cool - I'll need a replacement Temma2 decal for the front of my NJP mount - where do you get those done?

Send me your address - I made a couple. Just laser printed on permanent label paper.
