Has anyone else seen the write-up on spaceweather ?
Seems this exploding rocket was seen and imaged by quite a few Aussie Amateurs & proffessionals including our now famous Ron Mcnaught !

Really Mike :eyepop: You saw this
That just shows how many hours you spend behind your scope !
There is a really good movie on spaceweather, showing the breakup captured by Gordon Garradd, well done Gordon

Here is the link to the rocket booster break-up, images assembled as a .GIF movie, this would have been very impressive to see.
Surely there must have been one IIS'er who saw this !

Ian,
Ray Palmer, the guy who captured the image you posted the link to, sent me his photo for the Australian Astronomy site and a bit of info on the gear he used to capture it. Stunning shot!
On the Astrophotography page here: http://australian-astronomy.bravehost.com/
That video is excellent too.

Astroron and I nearly saw this .... we were at his place for a night of observing and as midnight came we changed over to widefield visual observing with naked eyeballs and/or binoculars for a while.
Sadly we started to get well and truly fogged out at ground level and the sky hazed over around 1am or so, otherwise we would have carried on for some time.
This amazing event was sighted from the Darling Downs area (not that far away) between 2 and 3am.
Bugger! Missed it by that much.
