Coincidentally Suavi & I are both targeting the triffid in narrowband at present. :)
Just for fun it seems that we're having a Trifid - off, so here's a hasty opening shot across the bow, from last night with not nearly enough data!

The plan is to keep big Mike and others happy too, by creating some kind of NB/RGB hybrid from my light polluted suburban skies in Melbourne.

This is a B-HaR-O3B-G cocktail which shows some promise using a seperate Blue layer as LUM - never tried this before :help:

I've attached screenshots of the masters for interest, I'm amazed to have so much blue signal already.

Only 2hrs Ha, 2 hrs O3 & a mere 20mins ea of RGB so far. The plan is to add S2 & a LOT more data to smooth it out properly.
(Hmm - I also have an N2 filter?)

Like M42, this object seems to appear better in broadband, so it's a challenging technical exercise to try for a pseudo-natural result using the NB & broadband filters. :)

Come one, come all- anyone can play :)

Here is the work in progress (http://www.astrobin.com/full/413341/0/) - (don't pixel peep too closely, it's got a long way to go yet!)

It’s WAR!

10” against 4” so a wider field against the narrower. Could be an interesting stand off ;)
It’s showing promise so far Andy.

The triffid is one of the most beautiful objects in the sky ...and sorry, I'm not a fan of NB versions.....The colours of the Sistine Chapel vault are just fine without any tinkering IMHO :)

To accurately nail sky-blue reflection nebula colours plus the H-alpha + beta and dust is not easy.....I think Malin's seminal versions are worth a look to guide your progress

Waiting for the return salvo! Everyone keep your heads down, we don't want anyone to get splattered with photons, ok?

It's an interesting challenge Col - I have huge respect for Suavi so I'm sure he'll produce something amazing with his 4" frac :)

Thanks Peter, I've just found that original AAO Malin image - something to aspire to indeed - not sure how I'll go under LP conditions but will give it a good crack

Lol  Load photon Torpedoes!

Thank you Andy - I hope you are getting some clear skies to make progress with the project - I really look forward to your bold, inspiring and eye-catching interpretation of the Trifid

Looking good overall Andy. No star colour though, all white.

Overall though the image lacks punch, a bit early to comment though.

That red area is somewhat muted to me eye.

Martin Pugh did a lovely hybrid version a few years back that would be worth referring to.

Greg.

Nice Andy. So is this worth trying narrow band?

Hey Suavi - We've had a rare and welcome run of clear nights here in Melbourne. Project now completed - will post up the results tmrw.:D

Thanks Greg - stay tuned on this channel for an update tmrw

Definately - otherwise everyone's Triffids would look alike :D
